According to the Android Authority website, Google insiders revealed that the modem of the Pixel 9 series mobile phones has been upgraded, which includes satellite connection capabilities.
Google Pixel 9 will support emergency satellite communication
As per the latest report, modem issues have plagued the Pixel series of phones since Google switched to its semi-custom Tensor chips in 2021. Since these chips were developed in partnership with Samsung’s S.LSI division, Google chose to use Exynos modems to simplify development.
The Pixel 9 series will be equipped with Tensor G4 for the first time, bringing a new modem-Samsung Modem 5400, which supports 5G non-terrestrial network.
The modem will be used in all cellular-enabled Tensor G4 devices, including the Pixel 9 series and the next-generation Pixel Fold. The source also revealed that Google is in the early stages of developing a 5G tablet codenamed “clementine” that has the same modem.
The appearance renderings of Google Pixel 9 have been exposed before. The phone adopts a right-angled frame design, which looks tougher than the rounded body in the past, and the rear camera module will be more prominent.
