Liam Hemsworth is an Australian actor, born on January 13, 1990, in Melbourne, Australia. He is well known for playing the roles of Marcus in the children’s television series The Elephant Princess and Josh Taylor in the soap opera Neighbours. In 2010, Hemsworth starred as Will Blakelee in American films, The Last Song. From 2012-2015, Hemsworth starred as Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games film series, and as Jake Morrison in Independence Day: Resurgence in 2016.
Early Years
Born on January 13, 1990 in Melbourne, Australia, to Craig Hemsworth, a social-services counselor, and Leonie, an English teacher, Liam Hemsworth has two older brothers, Chris Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth, who are also actors. His ancestry is English, Irish, Scottish, and German. He mentioned that there is competition among them as brothers, but noted that it is friendly: “We are brothers and we are always competitive, but it is a good thing, it pushes us and we are always happy whenever someone books something.”
Hemsworth’s family relocated to Phillip Island, a small Australian island southeast of Melbourne, when Hemsworth was eight years old. Hemsworth spent much of his time there surfing along with his brothers. He moved to the United States to pursue his acting career in March 2009.
Acting Career
Liam Hemsworth attended his first audition when he was sixteen years old and began his career in 2007. At first, he started with guest appearances on the shows McLeod’s Daughters and Home and Away. He began filming episodes for Neighbours on 8 July 2007, playing Josh Taylor. Josh became a recurring character from 2007 to 2008.
In 2008, Hemsworth played the role of Marcus, the lead guitarist of the protagonist’s band on the children’s television show The Elephant Princess. He later starred in the British film Triangle and had roles in the television series Satisfaction. Hemsworth also appeared as an MIT student in the film Knowing.
In 2010, Hemsworth landed the part of Will Blakelee in the Drama The Last Song, which was based on the Nicholas Sparks novel by the same name. He appeared in Miley Cirus’s music video “When I Look at You” which was recorded on August 16, 2009.

Role in “The Hunger Games Series”
In 2011, Hemsworth played one of the lead roles, Gale Hawthorne, in The Hunger Games, which was released in 2012. He also starred alongside Aimee Teegarden and Teresa Palmer in the war drama Love and Honor, in June 2011. Co-starring Amber Heard, Gary Oldman, and Harrison Ford, Hemsworth appeared in Empire State, with Paranoia and Emma Roberts in 2013.
Hemsworth repeated his role, Gale Hawthorne, in three sequels to The Hunger Games; The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, released in November 2013, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 1, released in November 2014, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, released in November 2015.
In 2015, Hemsworth appeared in the Australian literary adaptation The Dressmaker, portraying the love interest of Kate Winslet’s character. In 2016, Hemsworth starred in director Roland Emmerich’s film Independence Day: Resurgence.

Hemsworth began a relationship with his co-star Miley Cyrus when filming The Last Song in June 2009. The couple announced their engagement in June 2012 after a three-year on-and-off relationship. They lived together in Los Angeles, but ended their relationship in September 2013. Hemsworth commented that he and Miley would “always be best friends” and they had “an instantaneous and powerful connection.”
The two got engaged once again in 2016. The couple married on 23 December 2018 at their home in Nashville, Tennessee. Cyrus announced their separation in August 2019. Hemsworth filed for divorce a few days later, citing irreconcilable differences. Their divorce was finalized on January 28, 2020.
