Samsung SDI has officially decided to supply electric vehicle batteries for Hyundai Motor. The South Korean auto giant so far only used batteries from LG Energy Solution and SK On, Samsung SDI’s South Korean rivals.
Samsung SDI will supply EV batteries to Hyundai Motor
Hyundai Motor will use Samsung SDI’s batteries starting in 2026 for seven years for EVs launching in Europe.
It is the pair’s first supply deal over batteries. Samsung SDI will be supplying its next-gen P6 prismatic batteries from Hungary.
For Hyundai Motor, which had mostly used pouch batteries for its EVs, it is a diversification for batteries.
P6 uses NCA cathode with 915 nickel as well as use silicon anode to further increase energy density, according to Samsung SDI.
