As per the piece of information, it is being said that Tesla Cybertruck would have a solar roof. Although the electric pickup truck is closer to production, it is not clear that they would opt for this feature.
Tesla similar to the other automakers, had earlier disclosed its intention of adding solar to electric vehicles. But it never implies the same in action. Some automakers provide it as an optional feature. Also, the solar roof systems could be power auxiliary features and not the actual battery pack. If they could then they are only capable to bring a few miles of range.
In 2017, CEO Elon Musk stated that he asked for his expertise to work on integrating solar cells into Model 3. But they also concluded that it was not worth implementing at that time. However solar cell efficiency has now enhanced. While also Tesla created its own hands in equipping solar cells with the development of solar roof tiles.
With the launch of the Cybertruck, everyone is surprised by Musk’s statement. According to him, Tesla’s new electric pickup truck will have a solar roof option that will substantially add 15 miles of range per day.
Tesla’s mysterious Solar roof
After some time, Tesla also requested a patent that revealed that the solar cells will be embedded inside the retractable tonneau cover. We are some weeks away from production, but things are not still clear so far. Thus, we are not sure if this would be a scenario then it will be equipped with a solar roof or if it comes as an option.
Additionally, the feature has not been visible on the recent release candidates of Cybertruck. On the other hand, it might be the case that it is in some prototype. Or else it is equipped so well that they are not spotted easily.
