Apple has officially announced that it will open sideloading applications in Europe in March 2024. The third-party iOS app store AltStore seemed “unable to conceal its excitement” and posted on its official X platform account: Sideloading has landed in EU member states, the wait is finally here!
AltStore Europe 2024 News
AltStore’s official Weibo announced that the application has now started the process of “legalizing” itself, and European friends can download Delta and other AltStore applications in a formal form for the first time . “Everyone, see you in March!”
AltStore provides applications such as Nintendo game console emulator Delta and virtual machine tool UTM. Taking UTM as an example, it allows iOS users to run desktop operating systems such as Windows and Linux on their own devices. Such applications often violate the existing App Store regulations.
AltStore did not elaborate on how it will “legalize” its own apps this time, but the way to install apps is likely to change . For reference, if users currently want to install AltStore, they need to install AltServer on a Mac or Windows PC in advance, and complete processes such as connecting their mobile phone and logging in to their Apple ID through the computer.
If you want to install an application in AltStore, the general process is to connect the iOS device to the computer via USB, open AltServer, import the downloaded IPA installation package and then complete the installation . The process is relatively cumbersome.
According to analysis by foreign media TechRadar, after AltStore is “legalized”, users are expected to set it as the default app store for iOS devices. Because Apple mentioned in its description of “App Changes” that ” users can manage the list of allowed App Store developers and their App Stores in Settings and delete them at any time .”
