Mare Sellers

Mare is a product of the Carolinas, where she currently lives with her partner, dog Juniper, and her cat Fritter. With a passion for true crime, she holds two undergraduate degrees in Criminology and Forensic Anthropology from Western Carolina University, often cited as her favorite place on Earth and her one true “home.” However, she did not pursue law enforcement or pathology as a career, instead transferring years of customer service experience into the property management industry, where she developed a passion for all things marketing and social media. This led her to join Local Trending News as the Social Media Manager, giving her a chance to learn more about the industry and to express herself in a more creative environment. She is currently completing a Google Certificates course on Digital Marketing and E-Commerce.

An avid reader since childhood, there was rarely a moment that she couldn’t be found with her nose buried in a book. Often waiting in long lines for the midnight releases of "those" popular YA fantasy novels, she would have devoured them in their entirety by the following afternoon. She was frequently advised by her grade-school English teachers that she would grow up to become a novelist, due in no small part to the ravenous way she would tear her way through books, even competing in reading comprehension competitions for fun. Reading and writing have always held a special and impactful place in her life, allowing her to lose herself in the words on the page as the outside world melted away for a few hours.

In her spare time, she can still be found curled up on the couch, staying up way too late to finish novels on her Kindle (in less than half of the advertised reading time). True crime is still in the forefront of her life with various documentaries often serving as background noise as she works from home. Her other interests include traveling (she recently returned from a trip to the UK with her best friend, Alex), streaming and playing PC video games, cuddling her pets, scrolling TikTok, and searching the world for the best iced oat milk lattes.
