Google Pixel devices are powered by Tensor chipsets but it lacks in gaming performance it looks like the December 2023 update will also bring a GPU optimization that should improve the situation.
The latest Pixel Feature Drop also introduced the ability to force apps to display full screen on the Google Pixel Fold and Google Pixel Tablet.
Google updates the GPU of Pixel devices
As per the X tipster Mishaal Rahman, the December 2023 update for Google Pixel devices updated the GPU kernel driver, effectively delivering an upgrade to GPU performance in Tensor-animated devices.
Specifically, the updated driver “rp441” released on October 11, 2023 replaces an obsolete driver from August 2022 that was still in use.
Since this is just a GPU kernel driver update, you shouldn’t expect a drastic performance improvement with games, but at least a bit of pizzazz.
The tipster also notes that the latest Pixel feature release also includes the ability to force apps to display full screen on the Google Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet.
This feature will not induce a tablet-optimized layout, but will simply expand the app window, so no more information will be shown on the screen, but simply an enlargement of existing information, however Google warns that some apps may crash.
The novelty is now part of the Android operating system and will be available on all large-screen devices in Android 15 unless the manufacturer decides to remove it. Stay tuned for more Google Pixel news and updates.
