Jordan Poyer, safety for the Buffalo Bills, has officially canceled his annual golf charity event that he planned to host at the Blue Monster at Trump National in Doral in Florida.
He announced the cancellation via Instagram this past Saturday. Poyer claimed that the event had to be rescheduled until next year due to the multiple sponsors and teams that had pulled out of the event because of the location.
Jordan Poyer had expressed enthusiasm for the course, calling it one of his favorites, before announcing why the event had to be canceled.
In the statement Poyer posted to Instagram, he said,“Unfortunately, there have been a numerous amount of teams up north that have pulled out of the tournament. Not just out of the tournament but also wrote e-mails to a big sponsor that was going to help sponsor my tournament. And that company now, it’s unfortunate that they have pulled out and decided that they don’t want to take part in my tournament, in which they took part in last year, because of where it’s at, the Trump National in Doral.”
But Poyers wife, Rachel Bush, is adamant that the tournament will return to Trump’s resort next year.
She came back to Twitter after a hiatus, tweeting, “we will always stand proudly with our beliefs and hold true to them. Publicly.” She then went on to say that the event is not happening this year “because of the arrogance of others, and then backing out at the last minute.” She finished her statement with “Tournament will be at same spot next year. Trump’s course. Right, left, whatever, hopefully next year we can all come together for a good cause! Location aside..love!”
Representatives for Jordan Poyer have blamed “negative comments by some individuals trying to make this a political battle and divide our community.”
