Have you ever wondered how much Google employees get paid in a year? Wonder no more because the Google employee salary list just got leaked.
We all know that jobs in the tech industry pay a lot of money. But we don’t really know how much since the salary details of employees are usually kept confidential.
Fact: Tech Industry Companies Pay More
Google, being one of the most prosperous tech companies in the world, pays their employees really well. They are also known for having really cool office spaces and work-life balance for their workers. But until yesterday, the general public only had assumptions about how much Google pays its people.
Tech companies hire thousands of people for their operations. It’s a haven for software engineers, direct sellers, legal counsels, web designers, and researchers, among others. The popularity comes from the great compensation and benefit packages from the company.
Yesterday, an email that was meant to be sent internally to the 12,000 employees at Google got leaked. It contained the list of Google employee salary packages. Of course, people were quick on the uptake.
There’s a lot of mystery surrounding Google and its employees. So people were jumping on the leaked email. The correspondence revealed that software engineers were paid more than $700,000 per year. In contrast, the lowest salary included on the list was more than $200,000, which is still considered a good compensation package in today’s economy.
Here’s a partial list of how much each position in Google earns,
- Software engineer: $718,000

Google Employee Salary Packages Are Just Part of It
The money is surely something, but employees love Google because of other things the company offers too. For starters, they take pride in their physical offices. An article from The New York Times details what the headquarters of our favorite search engine looks like, and it’s nothing like any other office.
The New York Times article said the office was full of areas to socialize like play areas, cafes, a library, a Lego playing spot, theatre-like conference rooms, and many other amazing things. The pantry is also extensive with free nutritional breakfasts, snacks, and candy.
If this isn’t enough, Google also subsidizes gym memberships, holds free mental health seminars with psychologists, free yoga and pilates classes, and even virtual interviews with celebrities.
Another factor to be interested in working for Google is the benefits people get. They have stock options for their employees and various bonuses.
Google has been vocal about prioritizing the happiness of its employees. Their whole philosophy is to provide areas to stimulate their employees’ creativity outside of the usual office humdrum, and that’s why their offices look like a mitch-match of play areas and co-working spaces.
It seems Google is doing the right thing. More companies have started to emulate their open workspace model and add areas conducive to both relaxing and generating creativity with your colleagues. Of course, the Google employee salary package is the cherry on top.
