Nicolas Cage has let the world know that the force is not strong within him. The veteran actor said in an interview that he prefers Star Trek to Star Wars. The question of which fantasy world Nick Cage likes better came up in a promotional interview for the actor’s film, The Old Way. The host asked Cage about Pedro Pascal’s statement that he wanted to recruit Cage to be part of the Star Wars universe. The Renfield actor immediately said, “no is the answer” to Star Wars.
“I grew up watching [William] Shatner. I thought [Chris] Pine was terrific in the movies. I think the movies are outstanding. I like the political and the sociological. To me, what science fiction is really all about and why it’s such an important genre is that is really where you can say whatever you want, however, you feel. You put it on a different planet, you put it in a different time in the future, and you can without people just jumping on it. You can really express your thoughts, like [George] Orwell or whomever in the science fiction format. And ‘Star Trek’ really embraced that, I thought,” Cage explained further.
There has been an uproar in the sci-fi genre, with many fans siding with Star Wars or Star Trek. The recent expansion of the Star Wars universe by Disney adds to the debate over which franchise is better. But other sci-fi enthusiasts say it is a matter of what you grew up with, just like Cage mentioned he has adored Star Trek since his childhood.
Cage is no stranger to fantasy films. He has played many remarkable parts in fantasy and even disaster movies. The actor is also well-known for taking up the role of Ghost Rider in the movie franchise. He also played the lead in the adventure movie “National Treasure,” which was a success in the theatres and is still a recognized film in the adventure trope today.
His involvement in fantasy films made fans question whether he would be a part of any sci-fi franchises in the future. Pedro Pascal, a close friend who is a part of the Star Wars universe via The Mandalorian series, appears to want Cage to join the galaxy far, far away as well. But the actor’s automatic refusal put an end to that. The two actors worked recently on a comedy film called “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” in which Cage plays himself, and Pascal plays a billionaire who is a massive fan of Cage. The film was released in early 2022 with a positive response.
Aside from The Old Way, Nicolas Cage is handling several projects, at the moment, including a new adaptation of Dracula entitled “Renfield.” He stars as Dracula, who controls the titular character played by Nicholas Hoult. It is a modern take on the classic story, focusing on Dracula’s servant, Renfield, from the original novel. The film also stars Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, and Adrian Martinez. The film is now in post-production, and the release is scheduled for April of this year.
