Tesla Cybertruck stainless steel supplier has been disclosed, Outokumpu is the one to supply steel for the novel electric pickup truck. Notably, one of the distinct features of the Cybertruck is the fact that Tesla plans to build it with a body and “exoskeleton” made of “ultra-hard” stainless steel:
Cybertruck is built with an exterior shell made for ultimate durability and passenger protection. Starting with a nearly impenetrable exoskeleton, every component is designed for superior strength and endurance, from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin to Tesla armor glass.
Additionally, the automaker mentioned that it has a thought process to build its own alloy for it. Ahead this year, it has been unveiled the patent application that the automaker has filed with respect to its new alloy. According to Bloomberg, it has been reported that Tesla opted for Finnish supplier Outokumpu Oyj. This is to provide stainless steel for the Cybertruck body panels.
These reports express that Tesla will be sourcing stainless steel from Europe’s biggest producer. However, it has been also noted that the automaker might also use more than one supplier.
Tesla could be sourcing the materials from Outokumpu’s plant in Calvert, Alabama, and may be using more than one supplier, the people said. Outokumpu declined to comment. Tesla didn’t respond to requests for comment.
In addition to this, it’s the first time that Tesla has decided to use stainless steel for supportive body panels. Since the DMC DeLorean back in the 1980s. Therefore, if succeed in doing this, it is certainly a path to start a new trend. So far, Tesla has potentially 2 million reservations for the Cybertruck. Whereas, it is predicted to go into production in the near future.
And because of the stainless steel finish, the electric pickup truck can’t be painted. Rather, the best alternative for the Tesla is to rely on wraps. However, as of now, it is not clear that Tesla is going to opt for a third party in order to acquire that market. Else going to bring its own wrap service for the pickup. Meanwhile, every one of us has got our doubts clear. Since recently Tesla came up with a new service for Model 3 and Model Y.
