The new Star Wars series about the iconic character Ahsoka Tano reveals a new direction to the fantasy franchise. In this article, we will introduce you to a much older Ahsoka and her padawan, Sabine Wren. Spoilers ahead so read at your own cost.
Ahsoka is a beloved character that everyone remembers to be a former padawan of Anakin Skywalker, or later, Darth Vader, himself. Despite having a strong affiliation with The Force, Ahsoka wasn’t in total agreement with the Order of the Jedi’s practices and values. So she left the Order, found her own way, and discovered how she could be in harmony with The Force.
Now, in a new series continuing the fantastical world, Star Wars: Ahsoka introduces us to an older Ahsoka who has seen much of the universe. She decided to take in an apprentice, or padawan, Sabine Wren, who was first introduced in an earlier series, Rebels.
What sets Sabine apart from other apprentices who want to become a Jedi is that she doesn’t have an affinity with The Force. She can’t use it, unlike the previous great Jedi warriors. However, her skills with the lightsaber are undeniable. Additionally, Sabine is much older than other Jedi recruits, who usually start training much younger, in their early teens at least.
Sabine Wren’s Story Connected
In the first episode of Star Wars: Ahsoka, Sabine becomes a trainee under Ahsoka, but the two have their differences. They fought and Sabine’s training was put on hold. However, they reconciled by the second episode.
The second episode is much more interesting, with Star Wars fans kept on the edge of their seats because of the massive spoilers for the previous Star Wars: Rebels series. In the latest installment of the series, Sabine was separated from her friends Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, Zeb Orrelios, and Kanan Jarrus. They were known as the Ghost Crew. In the epilogue of the previous series, Kanan sacrifices himself for his crew.
In a touching moment giving tribute to Rebels, we see in episode two of Star Wars: Ahsoka that Sabine cut her hair just like how she wore it in Rebels. She also touches a mural of her and the Ghost Crew. She wore her Mandalorian armor, presumably in remembrance of her friends, and a sign that she was ready for battle.
Star Wars fans lost it after watching the end of the second episode. Everyone is excited to see more adventures from Ahsoka and Sabine in this new series, after all, these characters have touched the hearts of fans despite their brief appearances in previous installments of the franchise.
Like you, we can’t wait to see what the next episode entails. Sabine Wren becoming a part of the Order of the Jedi without using the Force gives us a glimpse into the new direction the fantasy franchise is taking. This new emphasis on hidden talents and origin stories has been intriguing the fans since the revival of the franchise by Marvel. Many series and seasons later, the Star Wars universe is still enthralling young and old fans alike.
