Tesla has brought two of its new vehicles, which would comprise the Model S and Model X. The automaker is getting back its ‘Standard Range’ versions with shorter range and economical prices.
In recent times, Tesla has introduced multiple versions of the Model S and Model X. All these are mostly based around various battery packs which come in the range starting from 40 kWh to 100 kWh of capacity. At times, it impressively offered new trims by simply software locking capacity in the battery pack.
Notably, both Model S, as well as Model X got refreshed in 2021. Whereby the American automotive giant only offered ‘Long Range’ and ‘Plaid’ versions of its flagship sedan and SUV. Apparently, now Tesla has initiated bringing back its ‘Standard Range’ version for each.
When it comes to pricing then for the Model S, it reduces the price by $10,000 to $78,490. At the same time, it also loses 85 miles. Therefore, the new standard range becomes 320 miles with a single charge as compared to 405 miles of the Long Range version.

The Model X also offers an attractive price that starts at $10,000 cheaper than the new version. While the new Standard Range Model X receives 269 miles of range. The range is 79 lower than the Long Range version. However, at this point, it is quite unclear, if Tesla provides the software locking capacity in the Long Range battery pack. This is, in order to create these trims or if it is genuinely producing a new battery pack for them.
Although these above doubts got cleared when the automaker starts deliveries. It will start next month in the US, the information revealed by Tesla’s online configurator. If it is software-locked, Tesla has earlier enabled owners to unlock the capacity in the future via a software update with a premium. Also, it is quite interesting to see if Tesla brings back the same feature again.
